Although the COVID-19 health emergency has temporarily paralysed the tourism industry, Lloret Turisme, the tourism management and promotional body of the destination, has been keen to launch a campaign to support the sector and the citizens of Lloret, a campaign showing how the destination hopes to welcome back visitors very soon with open arms.
Like the previous “Be a Lloretenc” campaign, “Let’s share Lloret from home” revives the romantic and nostalgic notion of sending and receiving postcards. As Elizabeth Keegan, Manager of Lloret Turisme, explains, “We all remember the thrill of receiving a postcard; it’s a way of showing that someone is in your thoughts; in some way you’re sharing your trip or experience with this person you hold dear. We feel it’s a good medium for showing both loyal visitors who’ve been coming here for years and potential new holidaymakers that we’re thinking about them and miss them.” There are four different digital postcards. They all include a warm, personal message that highlights the unique attractions of Lloret de Mar, which they will soon be able to enjoy once again. The postcards, available in Catalan, Spanish, English and French, can be downloaded at the compartim.lloretdemar.org website by anyone who wishes to send them to family, friends, customers or suppliers. They include the hashtags #StayHome, #ShareLloretFromHome and #BeaLloretencsoon.
This initiative comprises the first of the campaign’s two phases. The second phase will consist of sending physical postcards. More than 15,000 postcards will be distributed among the tourist offices of Lloret de Mar and among the partner establishments of the campaign, making it possible to “close the circle”. As Elizabeth Keegan explains, “We’ll capture the vintage feel of postcards and revive their romanticism, giving people the chance to share their Lloret experience in their own handwriting.” The postcards will bear a special stamp of the destination.
