The Lloret Convention Bureau held its 12th General Assembly of members to present the report of all the actions carried out throughout 2022 and the strategy planned for 2023. Around eighty members, political representatives and local partners such as the Catalonia Convention Bureau and the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau took part in the meeting, which was held at the Sant Pere del Bosc hotel, a unique venue that also boasts the Domaine Sant Pere wine project.
During the event, it was explained that last year Lloret de Mar hosted a total of 103 corporate and association events with more than 13,000 delegates, including the international presentation of the new electric bicycle models from the German company FOCUS and the Kid’s Innovation Fest, the annual meeting of the Catalan cluster of companies and associations dedicated to the children’s and family sector. The Mayor of Lloret, Albert Robert, highlighted “the satisfaction that the recovery of the MICE sector in autumn 2022 will be marked by two events such as FOCUS and the Kid’s Cluster, which allow us to showcase our potential in meeting tourism, but also in strategic products for the destination, such as sports and family tourism”. It should also be noted that brands such as Bosch, Herbalife, Easypark, Media Markt, Hipra, CaixaBank, HP and Gallina Blancam, among others, organised their events in Lloret de Mar in 2022. The participants are mainly from the local markets of Catalonia and Spain, followed by France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Nordic countries.
In the Festivals & Events division, 24 occupations of public roads were processed for international folklore festivals, with a total of 3,000 participants from more than 20 different countries.
In 2022, the Lloret Convention Bureau carried out a total of 20 commercial actions in priority and strategic markets, specifically 2 commercial agendas, 5 famtrips, 11 workshops, 1 trade fair and 1 presstrip, which generated 562 new contacts.
In line with the organisation’s strategy, the priority markets for 2023 are Catalan, Spanish and French, and promotional activities in strategic markets such as English, the Nordic countries and other traditional European markets are being revived. The action plan focuses on promoting Lloret de Mar as an ideal destination for the organisation of meetings, incentives and all kinds of events; marketing and sales support for the different members; and the positioning of Lloret de Mar in terms of communication and brand image.
The Director of the Lloret Convention Bureau Montse Belisario, explained that “we continue to combine our own actions, which allow us to promote the destination in a more personalised way, with actions under the umbrella of the Catalonia Convention Bureau and the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau. We will also focus on marketing actions aimed at showcasing the destination’s potential for team-building and incentive experiences with a specific website and video”.
In relation to the OGL (Olot-Girona-Lloret) project, which establishes synergies between the three mountain-urban-coastal territories, a presentation was included in Barcelona with event organising agencies from the capital.
Founded in 2009 by Lloret Turisme (Lloret Town Council) and the destination’s private sector, the Lloret Convention Bureau was a pioneering initiative in public-private collaboration with the aim of boosting the meetings tourism segment in Lloret de Mar. It currently has 56 members, with the recent addition of another six companies from the catering, accommodation, specialised services and activities sectors, which broaden the range of specialised meeting tourism services on offer in Lloret de Mar.
