Twenty-two communication proposals have been submitted to take part in the first edition of the “Archives and Tourism” seminar. The studies come from the United Kingdom, Germany, the Balearic Islands, Madrid and Catalonia. In the words of Joaquim Daban, the Municipal Archivist, “we are very pleased with the level of participation, both in terms of volume, since we had to have a minimum of ten communications, and in terms of the international level we have reached in this first edition”.

The biennial “Archives and Tourism” seminar is organised by the Lloret de Mar Town Council, the Government of Catalonia and the Girona Provincial Council, coordinated by Lloret Turisme and the Lloret de Mar Municipal Archives Service, in collaboration with the International Council on Archives, the University of Girona, the Association of Archives and Records Management Professionals of Catalonia, the School of Archives and Records Management of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Girona Town Council and the Coordination Committee of Catalan-Speaking Study Centres.

The seminar will be held on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of May in the multi-purpose room of the Lloret de Mar Municipal Library and, according to Isabel Bernal, councillor of the Lloret de Mar Municipal Archive Service, “aims to raise awareness of the public and private documentary collections created around tourism and to encourage their recovery, preservation and organisation within the tourism sector as part of the documentary heritage of contemporary society”. The full programme of the seminar is expected to be published shortly, with the definition of the speakers, round tables and accepted communications.

The seminar will have three themes: “Studies in Archivistics”, focusing on the preservation of documentary heritage and the dissemination of documentation related to tourism; “Studies in Tourism”, on the research and study of archival data related to tourism; and “Studies in the Generation and Management of Documentation and Data”, to show how the management of data and information on tourism activities is currently being approached.
