MICE tourism brings over 20,000 delegates to Lloret de Mar

El The Lloret Convention Bureau has presented its 2014 report and its 2015 action plan

The Lloret Convention Bureau, a public-private management body entrusted with promoting MICE tourism in Lloret de Mar, has held its annual assembly today, in which it has presented its 2014 report and 2015 action plan.

The main data of the 2014 report shows an increase in the number of MICE delegates visiting the destination, rising from 17,000 in 2013 to over 20,000 in 2014. In total, the Lloret Convention Bureau has coordinated over 120 meetings (of over 50 people), 90 festival and music events, and over 50 private sports events.

As regards last year’s MICE programme, Jordi Orobitg, Councillor for Tourism, highlighted the hosting of important events such as the Gas Natural conference and the annual convention of OKQ8, Sweden’s leading chain of filling stations, which brought 550 senior managers to Lloret de Mar.

Other noteworthy figures include the increase in requests for information, which have grown by 53% in respect of 2013 and the 17 inspection visits to the town that have led to the subsequent confirmation of 11 events.

Turning to the action plan, the strategy in priority markets such as Spain itself and the south of France has been maintained, while direct actions have also been carried out in other traditional European markets and in Scandinavian countries.

Two presentations of the destination have been scheduled in Barcelona for 2015: one for MICE tourism intermediaries and the other for the corporate sector, aimed at major companies.

In the other priority market, the south of France, promotional work will be strengthened considerably through a strategic and commercial initiative carried out in partnership with a specialised agency, targeting business parks in Perpignan, Toulouse and Montpellier.

As Romà Codina, Mayor of Lloret, explained, “The operational plan of Lloret de Mar we presented last week comprises a series of short, medium and long-term actions aimed at achieving the comprehensive improvement and greater specialisation of the destination in the products we work with, one of which is MICE tourism. It’s a hugely important milestone for Lloret de Mar.”
