« Abanico’s weekend » the third edition of Pride Costa Brava in Lloret de Mar, is here

The event will take place on the weekend of 31 May to 2 June to mark International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day on 28 June.

Pride Costa Brava-Lloret de Mar hosts a full programme of events promoting tolerance and equality for LGBTIQ+ people.

Lloret de Mar is one of the pioneering tourist destinations in terms of LGBTIQ+ leisure, whose origins date back to the 1950s and which has contributed to making the destination an inclusive and hospitable town.

On the weekend of 31 May to 2 June, on the occasion of International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day (28 June), Lloret de Mar celebrates “Abanico’s Weekend”, a weekend in which Lloret de Mar turns to the vindication of tolerance and equality of the LGBTIQ+ community through various top-level musical concerts such as Ptazeta, Juacko and Azucarillo Kings, as well as the children’s show « Atrapasomnis », awarded best album for family audiences at the Enderrock 2021 Awards, and a Drag Gala with the name of Miss Travesti Costa Brava.

The first night of concerts will take place on Friday 31 May on the Areny stage (Carrer del Areny, 18), starting at 9 pm. The Azucarillo Kings, who return to the stage after 25 years, will be performing cover versions and a fusion of Catalan rumba and disco music.

The following day, Saturday 1 June, the party will move to Plaça Germinal Ros, opposite the Lloret Theatre, from 10pm. The night will be hosted by local drag artist Joanne, a true master of ceremonies who will be the perfect hostess for Pride Costa Brava. The stage will also feature Ptazeta, a young singer from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, an advocate of lesbian visibility, with queer lyrics in her work, who in 2011 collaborated with the producer Bizarrap. Juacko DJ, considered one of the best producers of the moment, will also be present, with sessions that mix reggaeton and electronica.

The last day of Abanico’s weekend will be held on the promenade of Sa Caleta Velamar stage. In the morning there will be a Family Diversity Party with the children’s entertainment group Els Atrapasomnis and in the evening there will be the Miss Travesti Costa Brava drag gala, hosted by Jessica Pulla.

As part of the events celebrating Pride Costa Brava month in Lloret, visitors can also enjoy the exhibition ‘Valid Identities’, a photographic exhibition by Isaac Flores, a photographer from Barcelona who trained at the Institute of Photographic Studies of Catalonia and who won the Best Photographer of Catalonia Award in 2021 with this exhibition. The exhibition, which can be visited on Fridays and Saturdays until 1 June, is, according to Xavi Orri, representative of the LGTBIQ+ Plurals association, a portrait of Barcelona’s queer scene, focusing on the drag movement, transvestism and sexual dissidence.

“Since the 1960s, Lloret de Mar has been one of the pioneering tourist destinations in LGTBIQ+ leisure. We want to continue this trend as an open, plural and respectful city. This is why we continue to support Pride Costa Brava with the aim of making it a benchmark”, said Adrià Lamelas, Mayor of Lloret de Mar.

Pride Costa Brava-Lloret de Mar aims to be a weekend full of music, performances and events for all audiences, with the sole intention of vindicating and celebrating the right of all people to be whoever they want to be. It is also the perfect excuse to visit the capital of the Costa Brava, a city with a rich landscape of sea and mountains, a wealth of heritage to discover and a host of proposals to enjoy an unforgettable setting.

With the arrival of the good weather, it becomes more and more appealing to make outdoor plans, such as enjoying the beaches and coves that Lloret de Mar and its surroundings have to offer, or practising water sports. Enjoying a good rice dish on the beach at the Beach Club Gammarus after a morning spent sunbathing in Cala Canyelles or watching the sun go down at the spectacular Avana rooftop at the Delamar and Frigola hotels, a modern and relaxing space with a tapas and cocktail menu, are just some of the things to do as summer approaches.

This weekend of music may also be the perfect time to discover the newly opened Meliá Lloret de Mar 5*S, the perfect retreat on the shores of the Mediterranean that unites designer rooms with a relaxing spa, two outdoor pools and delicious gastronomic spaces.
