Lloret de Mar hosts the first edition of the seminar Archives and Tourism

From yesterday until tomorrow, Saturday 25 May, a full programme of round tables, presentations and papers on the documentary collections linked to the world of tourism will be on offer.

From yesterday, Thursday 23 May, until tomorrow, Saturday 25 May, Lloret de Mar is hosting the first edition of the Archives and Tourism seminar, an international event organised by Lloret Town Council, Girona Provincial Council and the Government of Catalonia, and coordinated by Lloret Turisme and the Lloret de Mar Municipal Archive Service.

The programme, which has more than seventy participants, offers a full programme with round tables, lectures and communications on the documentary collections linked to the world of tourism with renowned personalities from the United Kingdom, Germany, the Balearic Islands, Madrid and Catalonia.

Yesterday afternoon saw the start of a pre-seminar session that included a round table discussion on “Tourism and the management of the information it generates”, with the participation of representatives from the private sector in Lloret de Mar; the presentation of the exhibition “Tourist documentary collection in the Lloret de Mar Archive” and the screening of the documentary “Full board. Reconstructing tourism from a female perspective”.

The official opening of the Archives and Tourism seminar took place today, with a presentation by Josée Kirps, President of the ICA; a speech by Joaquim Borràs, Deputy Director General of Archives; a speech by Natàlia Figueras, Member of Girona Provincial Council; and the closing speech by the Mayor of Lloret, Adrià Lamelas. This was followed by a series of round tables. In the afternoon, the day continued with new papers and keynote addresses by Hasso Spode, from the Berlin Tourism Archive; Carlos Larrinaga, a specialist in the history of tourism in Spain; and Antonella Fresa, an advisor to the European Union and a specialist in cultural tourism. The day ended with a visit to the Modernist Cemetery in Lloret de Mar.

Finally, tomorrow there will be a round table discussion on “Management of local, regional, provincial and national tourism collections”, where the issues surrounding the management, recovery, treatment and dissemination of collections linked to the world of tourism, the latest communications and the presentation of experiences on tourism studies in the area of Lloret will be discussed. Finally, participants will be able to enjoy a guided tour to Santa Clotilde Gardens.
