Lloret de Mar’s Tourist Offices go digital to improve the visitor’s tourist experience

The incorporation of technological tools makes it easier to discover the city and its attractions and to collect information and data on the evaluation of services and visitor behaviour.

The Lloret de Mar Tourist Offices have carried out a digitalisation process by implementing different technological tools aimed at improving the visitor’s tourist experience. In the words of Elizabeth Keegan “The demands of our visitors have evolved and changed and we had to make this leap in our Tourist Offices as well. With the implementation of these technological tools we can offer a much more personalised tourism experience, tailored to the needs of demand with tourist offices that not only provide information, but also invite visitors to discover and experience our city”. These new technological components adapt to new trends in order to respond to users who are much more sensitive to visual impacts, hyper-connected and looking for interaction with the territory also through the digital world.

The digitisation process consisted of the installation of totems, digital screens, tablets and gamification tables:

Outdoor totems. Located at 4 strategic points in the destination, they are outdoor devices that provide information on current activities and campaigns, and are in operation from 07:30 to 22:00 every day of the year. They are a key element to get closer to our visitors and send them strategic information at various points in the municipality.

Displays. Devices installed inside the Central Tourist Office (1 device) and the Tourist Office of the Museum of the Sea (2 devices) that offer information about the proposals to enjoy the cultural and natural heritage, the tourist offer of the destination, the calendar of events or the different civic campaigns.

Digital surveys. Devices installed in the Central Tourist Office (2 tablets) and in the Tourist Office of the Museum of the Sea (1 tablet) that allow users, through surveys, to evaluate the satisfaction of the service and the state of the tourist offices.

Gamification tables. Tactile table with various entertainment games such as a memory game, painting games, puzzles, a game of differences and a bubble game… which are translated into 6 languages and allow children to discover the heritage and most authentic corners of Lloret de Mar. One is located in the Central Tourist Office and the other in the Tourist Office of the Museum of the Sea. These new digital elements complement the children’s area with a table for painting, reading stories, playing games, etc., which was already available to families at the Central Tourist Office.

In addition, an interactive totem has been installed in the Tourist Office at the bus terminal, with tourist information available every day from 6 am to 9 pm.

In terms of sustainability, the Central Tourist Office and the Tourist Office of the Museum of the Sea have a tablet that shows the energy efficiency of both buildings.

The digitisation of the Tourist Offices has been financed through the “Lloret Smart Destination2 project, which has been subsidised since 2018 by Red.es through European ERDF funds. Currently, as part of this digital transition project, Lloret Turisme is still working on the implementation of other strategic components such as: the city intelligence platform, the analysis of tourist flows and BIG DATA, proximity marketing through beacons, a content manager and a mobile tourism app, among others.

Each year the Lloret Tourist Offices receive more than 80,000 visitors. The first 7 months of 2024 have seen 7% more visitors than in the same period in 2023 (people attended January-July 2023: 40,001 / January-July 2024: 42,784).
