Lloret’s coastal paths, the ideal option for an active start to the spring season

These paths along the coastline allow you to breathe in the essence of the city, discover its beauty and walk by the sea at any time of the year. The section that links Lloret beach with Fenals beach, although it has some steps, is short and easy to walk along.

The milder temperatures that spring brings are perfect to start making outdoor plans; among them, going for a walk by the sea to feel the freshness of the Mediterranean and breathe in the essence of the Costa Brava from its paths. The coastal paths run along the coastline and reveal all the secrets of the Mediterranean flora and fauna to walkers.

Two sections of the GR92 Mediterranean trail pass through Lloret de Mar, a long-distance trail (583 km) that runs along the entire Catalan coastline, taking in small coves, beaches and maritime landscapes. The entire route alternates coastal forest landscapes, with the white pine as the main feature, with small coves and beaches, offering the unique possibility of passing along coastal paths (old paths used for surveillance against maritime attacks or smugglers) that allow you to enjoy emblematic sites in the middle of the cliffs.

The coastal path that stretches from the vibrant beach of Lloret to the quiet beach of Fenals – just 2.3 kilometres long – invites everyone to a day of discovery and scenic beauty. This is a route along the paths and through the pine and holm oak forests that line Lloret’s coastline, allowing you to enjoy the natural scenery of the Costa Brava, as well as the rich history and culture of Lloret. These six are essential stops.

Maritime Museum

The start of the coastal path is marked by this museum, which offers a journey through part of the town’s history, from the time when Lloret beach was the site of shipbuilding to the voyages to America with captains and sailors who traded coffee, tobacco and cotton. Each room explains a fragment of Lloret’s history and its close relationship with the Mediterranean Sea through sensory and visual experiences.

Passeig de Jacint Verdaguer

Named after the famous Catalan poet, this promenade offers spectacular views of the sea and is a testament to the inspiration that artists have found in Lloret de Mar over the years. Between the Casa Garriga – built in 1887 – and the town hall, there is a promenade of red sand surrounded by palm trees, reminiscent of the colonial atmosphere of the Americas. The reddish colour of the sand is due to the mixture of clayey sand with the red brick trencadís.

La Dona Marinera

Also known as Venus of Lloret, this beautiful bronze sculpture – the work of the artist Ernest Maragall – which can be seen at the end of Lloret beach is a tribute to the woman of the seafaring era, who was often responsible for running the family while the man went to seek his fortune on the other side of the Atlantic. A legend has been created around this figure that says that the person who looks at the horizon (like the statue) and at the same time touches the sculpture’s right foot with their hand will see the wishes they make at that moment come true.

Cala Banys

This little hidden paradise is a treasure for those seeking a moment of tranquillity and connection with nature. Surrounded by rocks and vegetation, it is an ideal place for a refreshing swim away from the more crowded beaches; it is also especially recommended for fishing or snorkelling, as it is an area rich in the various species of rock fish that can be found on the Costa Brava.

Sant Joan Castle

Located at the top of the mountain that separates the beaches of Lloret and Fenals, it is an emblematic tower of the municipality with a construction date dating back to the 11th century AD, offering an open-air history lesson and splendid views of the coast. Work began in 1965 to recover the remains of the original castle, but it was not until 1983 that the Town Council obtained permission to rebuild the tower, which can now be visited.

Fenals Beach

Fenals is the second largest beach in Lloret de Mar, with an extension of 700 metres, and is located in a bay sheltered from the winds by a massif that separates it from the town centre and Lloret beach. Its calm waters and golden sand are the ideal setting for relaxing after a walk; not forgetting its beautiful viewpoint, the perfect place to capture the calm and relaxing spirit of this coastal enclave and the finishing touch to a stroll full of discoveries and natural beauty.
