More than 6,000 accommodation places have already implemented the Bioscore Sustainability certification. They are the Marsol hotel, the Costa Encantada aparthotel, the Blau apartments, the Condado apartments, the Samba hotel, the Surf Mar hotel, the Delamar hotel, the Gran Hotel Flamingo, the Evenia Olympic Park hotel, the Evenia Olympic Garden hotel, the Evenia Olympic Suites hotel, the Evenia Olympic Palace hotel, the Xaine Park hotel, The 15th Boutique Hotel and the Augusta Club Hotel & Spa.
Bioscore certification allows establishments to lay the future foundations for obtaining the UNE-ISO 21401:2019 Management System for Tourist Accommodation standard, which is the first international standard on sustainability in tourist accommodation and which has been developed by the ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) Standardisation Committee. In the words of the president of the Hotels Association “it was very important to have access to a certification with this international component as it gives credibility and guarantees both to the sector and to the travellers themselves”.
Bioscore certification offers environmental certification but also management software, which, in the words of Elizabeth Keegan, manager of Lloret Turisme, “allows us to have indicators, create reports and establish a cross-cutting strategy in the field of sustainability for the establishments themselves while providing us with relevant information for the whole destination”. Lloret Turisme recently completed an executive programme on Innovation and Sustainability “Smart Sustainable Strategies” in which around thirty professionals from the tourism sector in Lloret de Mar have taken part, which highlights the importance of including sustainability in the DNA of companies.
Bioscore certification is also highly valued by different distribution channels such as Booking, Destinia, OntheBeach, Ecohotels.com, Greenline Hotels and Bidroom. In the case of Booking.com, a leading travel e-commerce company, Bioscore certified hotels appear with the highest sustainability rating awarded by Booking.com. Víctor Monzón, CEO of Bioscore, indicates that “for Bioscore, this collaboration with Booking.com is exceptional, because it allows us to award the highest level of sustainability to the hotels certified by us, aligning us also with international certifications of great prestige such as EarthCheck or GreenKey”. According to Booking’s research, 81% of travellers confirm that sustainable travel is important to them, and 70% of travellers are likely to book accommodation with environmentally friendly practices.
In June 2022, the Lloret de Mar Hotels Association, with the support of Lloret Turisme, announced the agreement signed with the Bioscore platform to certify all associated accommodation establishments in a clear commitment by Lloret’s private and public sectors to sustainable tourism. This makes Lloret de Mar the first destination in Catalonia to have such a large number of establishments with international sustainability certification.
