Lloret de Mar obtains the blue flag on all its beaches

There are five in total: Lloret beach, Fenals beach, Canyelles cove, Santa Cristina and Sa Boadella cove

Lloret de Mar thus becomes the second municipality in Catalonia with most blue flags, in comparison with other municipalities that also have five, and only behind Sitges

The Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) has announced the list of blue flags awarded by the international jury to Spanish beaches and ports.

Lloret de Mar has been awarded Blue Flags on all its beaches, specifically on the beaches of Lloret and Fenals and the coves of Canyelles, sa Boadella and Santa Cristina-Treumal. Lloret de Mar thus becomes the second municipality in Catalonia with most blue flags, in comparison with other municipalities that also have five, and only behind Sitges.

The Fenals Interpretation Centre has once again been awarded the “Blue Centre” seal of approval. Just this past month, in collaboration with Lloret Turisme, a marine biology workshop for families was run by marine biologists from the Casa del Mar.

The Mayor of Lloret, Albert Robert, remarked that “our natural environment with its beaches and coves is one of our main attractions and this recognition demonstrates the efforts made by both public and private service providers”. Every year Lloret de Mar spends more than 1.5 million euros on beach maintenance and services. The lifeguard and lifeguard service, contracted out to the company Proactiva Serveis Aquàtics, SL, is one of the services on the Costa Brava that offers the most months of service and is reinforced by municipal staff, with a team of beach watchmen, Civil Protection Auxiliary Technicians and civic informers, a total of more than 31 people during the high season.

The Blue Flag award is granted by an international tribunal, the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), with the collaboration of the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), which manages the campaign in Spain. This internationally recognised award values and rewards environmental management, safety, facilities and the optimum provision of services, information and environmental education, as well as the correct cleanliness and quality of the bathing water.
