Lloret Town Council has announced that, coinciding with the municipality’s entry into the drought pre-alert phase, the showers on the beaches will be partially reinstated for the 2025 summer season. The councillor for beaches, Cristina Aymerich, explained that “The measure responds to the desire to ensure responsible use of water resources, while maintaining quality services for beach users”. The showers will be installed in mid-May, when the beach season starts.
Specifically, only 50% of the usual showers will be activated, from 46 to 23 units, distributed strategically along the coastline to ensure accessibility and service. In addition, all the facilities will be equipped with flow reducers and timer buttons, allowing significant water savings without sacrificing the comfort of bathers. In addition, time programmers will be installed on Lloret’s large beach to stop the water flow during certain night-time hours, thus preventing possible leaks or improper use.
The Town Council has stressed that this decision is part of the municipal commitment to sustainability and efficient management of natural resources, and that it will continue to monitor the evolution of the drought in order to adjust the measures if necessary. In the words of the Mayor of Lloret, Adrià Lamelas, “Our aim is to strike a balance between offering quality services to visitors and residents, while at the same time being responsible with a situation that affects us all”.
