The director of Lloret Turisme, Elizabeth Keegan, received the British Empire Medal (BEM) on Friday in Lloret de Mar (Costa Brava). British Consul Lloyd Milen presented the award to Keegan, who was appointed by His Majesty King Charles III in 2025 for her services to the British community in Girona.
For over 15 years, Keegan has consistently shown a commitment that goes beyond her professional responsibilities to support both the resident British community and British tourists visiting Lloret de Mar (Costa Brava), making a significant contribution to helping people in difficult situations and their families.
British Consul-General Lloyd Milen remarked: “Elizabeth Keegan has shown for many years an extraordinary commitment to the British community in Catalonia. Whether supporting vulnerable residents during the pandemic or helping British nationals to understand the changes resulting from the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union, she has generously dedicated her time, energy and expertise. This award is a thoroughly deserved recognition of a career marked by service to others.”

Managing a tourist destination also means being able to respond in the most difficult circumstances, when people need support, guidance and empathy.
