The Santa Clotilde Gardens and House in Lloret de Mar were among the locations chosen for the filming of ‘El mundo era nuestro’, a musical feature film set during the Second World War. Filming took place in the town in late June and early July, whilst the production has been shot over the last few months at various locations in the Basque Country, Navarre and Catalonia.
The film stars Ana San Martín and Guido Balzaretti, alongside Natalia Millán, Pablo Puyol, Daniel Diges and a large cast. ‘El mundo era nuestro’ – inspired by real events – tells the story of two lovers struggling to be reunited in the midst of the war, combining their love story with spectacular musical numbers.
The project joins the more than twenty productions that have taken place in Lloret de Mar during the first half of the year, including films, TV series, adverts, music videos and photo shoots. Most of these have been for major international brands such as Nike, Bershka, Desigual and Kawasaki, as well as the handmade jewellery brand UNOde50 and the medicine Exdensur. Furthermore, Lloret has also served as the setting for several television programmes, including ‘Pla seqüència’, featuring Nina and Jordi Basté on La 2Cat; the documentary series ‘Un país d’altura’, on 3Cat; and archive footage for the seventh series of ‘Crims’. This activity cements the Lloret Film Office’s position as a leading service for attracting and supporting audiovisual productions.
Once again, the most sought-after filming locations were the Santa Clotilde Gardens, Sa Boadella cove and Santa Cristina beach, as well as Cala Canyelles, Treumal and the Can Font house-museum. As for private locations, during the first half of the year filming also took place at the Sant Pere del Bosc estate, a location that until recently was little known to production companies and which, thanks to the familiarisation trip for location scouts coordinated last year by Lloret Turisme and the Catalunya Film Commission, has begun to attract interest from the sector. The advertising shoot for the international brand Under Armour, the programme ‘Married at First Sight’ and the promotional shoot for Citi Travel are the audiovisual productions that this unique location has hosted in recent months.
Elizabeth Keegan, director of v, explains that “in addition to the locations that traditionally host the majority of film shoots, it is good news that lesser-known places, such as the Sant Pere del Bosc Natural Park, are gaining popularity, as this reinforces our versatility as a filming location”.
Keegan points out that “every film shoot has a direct impact on the local economy, as it generates activity in the accommodation, catering, retail and service sectors, often during periods of lower tourist activity, but it also represents an extraordinary opportunity to promote the image of Lloret de Mar through film, television and advertising”.
The Lloret Film Office, established in 2005, has managed hundreds of audiovisual productions and continues to work to diversify the available locations and strengthen the destination’s position within the audiovisual industry. This municipal department supports producers throughout the entire process, from location scouting to coordinating shoots, with the aim of making the work of industry professionals as easy as possible.
