Lloret de Mar, finalist at the CETT Alimara 2026 Awards with two tourism innovation projects

The selected projects are the Lloret Drone Festival and BeFuture MICECycle, which focuses on reducing food waste in the MICE sector.

Lloret de Mar once again positions itself as a leading destination for tourism innovation with the selection of two locally-driven projects as finalists in the prestigious CETT Alimara Barcelona 2026 Awards. These are the Lloret Drone Festival event and the BeFuture MICECycle project, the latter in collaboration with the Lloret-based company Marmirada Proximity Tech Solutions, Effiwaste and the Lloret Convention Bureau.

The awards recognise products, services, strategies and initiatives that stand out for their innovation in areas such as communication, digitalisation, sustainability and research in the tourism, hotel and gastronomy sectors. In this regard, the double nomination reinforces Lloret de Mar‘s commitment to an innovative, sustainable tourism model that is aligned with the sector’s new challenges.

The Lloret Drone Festival: technology and spectacle on Lloret beach

The Lloret Drone Festival, which this year reaches its sixth edition and is held in September, has established itself as a unique event that combines technology, creativity and tourism promotion, contributing to extending the season in the destination.

A finalist in the “Through Experiences” category, the festival offers a spectacle with 300 drones flying over Lloret beach with an original choreography created especially for the destination. The Lloret Drone Festival presents itself as a sustainable alternative to traditional fireworks, integrating technological innovation, creativity and respect for the environment.

BeFuture MICECycle: sustainability in meetings tourism

The BeFuture MICECycle project, driven by Marmirada Proximity Tech Solutions and Effiwaste and in collaboration with the Lloret Convention Bureau, focuses on sustainability within the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions) segment. The initiative aims to establish a system to measure and reduce food waste at MICE events through regenerative actions and digital tools.

This proposal, a finalist in the “Through Sustainability” category, represents a firm step towards the sustainable transformation of meetings tourism, reinforcing Lloret de Mar’s positioning as a responsible and innovative destination.

A benchmark award for the sector

The CETT Alimara Barcelona Awards are organised by the CETT, in conjunction with B-Travel and with the collaboration of UN Tourism and the Department for Language Policy of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

These awards have established themselves as a key meeting point for the Catalan tourism sector, bringing together companies, institutions and professionals to recognise and showcase the most innovative initiatives.

In the words of the Councillor for Tourism, Cristina Aymerich, “Having these two Lloret-based projects as finalists highlights the collaborative work between the public and private sectors and reaffirms us as a destination that leads transformative projects adapted to the new demands of the tourism industry”. She added, “From Lloret Turisme, we are also pleased to see that projects such as Proa and Datur, with which we work, have been selected”.

The winning projects will be announced during the awards ceremony, which will take place on the 19th of March at the Hotel Alimara in Barcelona.
