Urban beaches or hidden coves: Lloret de Mar is the ideal destination for a summer by the sea

In Lloret de Mar there is no need to choose between beaches equipped with all services or small coves far from the hustle and bustle; the capital of the Costa Brava offers options to suit all tastes.

On the Costa Brava, summer is synonymous with beach and sea, water sports, boat trips, outdoor activities… Lloret de Mar, one of the region’s favourite destinations, has this clear and offers its visitors a range of summer activities to suit all tastes, including, of course, a selection of beaches and coves to satisfy all tastes.

For those who prefer to spend the day away from the urban pace and are even willing to make a little physical effort to reach the most sheltered shore, the hidden coves of Lloret de Mar are the perfect option. For families who want to spend a full day by the sea, with options to enjoy and discover with the family, or for those who are looking for all the services, water sports and large sandy areas, the larger beaches are the best choice.

Lloret de Mar has a wide range of beaches and coves, all of which are Blue Flag beaches: Lloret beach, Fenals beach, Cala Canyelles, Santa Cristina and Cala Sa Boadella. For the traditional, for the urbanites, for the adventurous, for those who prefer to be more relaxed, there is a beach for everyone.

Hidden coves

Cala Sa Boadella: its scarce 250 metres in length and its spectacular, almost virgin spot are perfect for a day at the beach where tranquillity reigns supreme. It is one of the least accessible coves in Lloret de Mar, making it suitable for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. To reach it, all you have to do is follow a 200-metre dirt track that starts from the road. This short walk allows you to enter the almost untouched landscape of the most authentic Costa Brava.

Sa Caleta: this small cove has small fishing boats on the shore, which give it a unique and special atmosphere; moreover, it has the beautiful Lloret Castle as a backdrop, which offers an interesting immersive experience on climate change. This small sandy area, located next to Lloret beach, is the start of the coastal path that runs from Lloret de Mar to Tossa de Mar.

Cala Banys: this is a rocky and steep cove with no sand, especially recommended for fishing or snorkelling, as it is an area rich in marine species. Its surroundings are beautiful and exotic, with crystal-clear waters perfect for a refreshing swim. It can be reached by taking a walk along the coastal path or by car from Sant Joan Castle.

Cala Treumal: the two rocks located to the right of Santa Cristina beach open up to allow you to reach this small cove surrounded by thick vegetation that gives it a somewhat wild appearance.

Beaches

Lloret beach: with a length of more than a kilometre and a half, this is the longest beach in the town from which it gets its name. With leisure activities for all tastes, this wide urban beach is perfect for spending the day with all the comforts of home and is located just in front of the town centre.

Fenals beach: 700 metres long, it is the second longest beach in the town and the family beach par excellence. It is located in a bay sheltered from the winds by a massif that separates it from the town centre and Lloret beach. It has services for all ages, a wide range of water sports such as parasailing and kayaking and an extensive programme of family activities at the Casa del Mar.

Both Lloret and Fenals beaches have adapted access, shaded areas, amphibious chairs with assistance during the summer months, and other services designed to guarantee the comfort and autonomy of all users.

Santa Cristina beach: this is one of the beaches most loved by the people of Lloret and, thanks to its location between two large hills that protect it from the winds and waves, its waters are constantly calm. With fine sand and in the midst of a lush natural landscape, this family beach is located at the foot of the chapel of Santa Cristina, patron saint of Lloret, and is easily accessible via a lovely sandy path surrounded by the shadows of the trees. A short distance away is the chapel of Santa Cristina, patron saint of the town, with maritime details that recall its maritime past.

Cala Canyelles: the beach furthest from the town centre of Lloret is also home to the town’s only marina. It has shallow waters and coarse sand, services such as water sports and parasol and deckchair hire, and is surrounded by cliffs full of pine trees. Next to the beach is the popular Gammarus beach club and restaurant, along with other gastronomic proposals for all tastes.
