Lloret de Mar has cemented its position as a leading destination for major international audiovisual productions with the filming of scenes for the second season of the HBO series DUNE. Filming took place between 24 November and 16 December, including pre-production. During this period, the municipality became one of the key locations for this ambitious production linked to one of the world’s most renowned science fiction sagas.
The main location for the shoot was the new amphitheatre in the Santa Clotilde Gardens, a recently inaugurated space that was used alongside different areas of the Santa Clotilde Gardens themselves and Cala Sa Boadella.
The filming has had a significant economic impact on the municipality, with a technical and artistic team of between 200 and 250 professionals present for nearly a month. The activity has generated direct and indirect expenditure of more than £250,000, particularly in accommodation, catering and local services, contributing significantly to the economic revitalisation of Lloret de Mar in the low season.
Beyond the immediate economic return, the presence of Lloret de Mar in a production from the DUNE universe represents an opportunity for international exposure with great potential for promoting tourism and consolidating the town’s position as a natural location for large-scale film shoots.
Lloret Film Office and Lloret de Mar Town Council greatly value this collaboration with HBO, which reinforces the strategy of attracting audiovisual productions and showcases the municipality’s iconic locations, combining heritage, landscape and the creative industry.
