The Lloret Convention Bureau is taking part in the European project “BeFuture MYCEycle: Leading Zero Food Waste Events”, which aims to reduce food waste in the MICE sector through regenerative actions and digital solutions.
This programme is promoted by Marmirada Proximity Tech Solutions, a company from Lloret de Mar, a benchmark company in sustainability, and the startup Effiwaste, which specialises in technology for the efficient management of food waste.
A commitment to innovation, sustainability and circular economy
The aim of the project is to implement systems for measuring and reducing food waste at congresses and conventions organised in Lloret de Mar, encouraging a transition towards an economy based on more responsible and efficient meetings tourism.
Within this framework, the Effiwaste startup will analyse food waste at a minimum of 4 or 5 MICE events held in Lloret de Mar between June and mid-October 2025. These will be carried out in establishments that are members of the Lloret Convention Bureau, such as the Olympic Conference Centre and the Hotel Melià Lloret de Mar, applying its measurement, reporting and real-time forecasting tools.
Commitment of the Lloret Convention Bureau
The Lloret Convention Bureau reinforces its commitment to the project and to sustainability through the following actions: collaborating in the testing of the technological solution during several events; co-creator of a guide of good practices that will be shared with members and tour operators; support in the dissemination and communication of the results obtained to promote awareness and the replicability of the project in other companies or destinations.
In the words of the director of the Convention Bureau, Montse Belisario, “We recognise the immense value and transformative potential that BeFuture MYCEycle represents for our industry. It allows us to focus on digitalisation, efficiency and sustainability in the events sector, improving our competitiveness as a destination”.
The initiative was also presented this week in Barcelona, in the presence of the CEO of Marmirada Proximity Tech Solutions, Damià Font, at an event organised by the Catalan Tourism Agency.
With this project, Lloret reinforces its European leadership in tourism sustainability, demonstrating that innovation and environmental responsibility are key to the future of the MICE sector.
