Lloret de Mar hosts 34,530 people linked to sports tourism in the first four months of 2026, with Holy Week as the main attraction

Lloret de Mar consolidates its position as a leading destination for sports tourism with a total of 34,530 people linked to sports tourism in the first quarter of 2026, 23,130 of whom are athletes and 11,400 are accompanying persons. During this period, 301 training camps and 15 events will have been hosted, featuring a strong international presence and covering various disciplines such as football, triathlon, cycling, swimming and athletics.

Easter Week, the peak of sports tourism

This period is particularly marked by the month of April which, coinciding with Holy Week, concentrates the greatest amount of sporting activity, between training camps and events, with top-level tournaments such as the MIC football tournament (from 31 March to 5 April), with 2,000 athletes and 2,000 accompanying persons from around forty nationalities; the San Jaime Tournament (3–5 April), also a football tournament; the Lloret Cup handball tournament (from 30 March to 2 April), with 1,500 athletes and around 500 accompanying people, and, in basketball, the Globasket tournament and the Eurobasket, with 3,500 and 1,600 people respectively.

The Councillor for Sports, Frederic Guich, has pointed out that: “the majority of tournaments return year after year to Lloret de Mar and this is a testament to the facilities our destination offers to sports event organisers, both for the quality of the facilities and for the specialised services for hosting large numbers of participants.” Furthermore, he has highlighted that “these are tournaments of significant importance, with a strong international presence.”

The activity continues after Easter

The tournaments and events will continue after Easter, with examples such as the English Schools Games (7th and 8th April), the Vila de Lloret international pétanque tournament (from 13 to 16 April) and the Gran Fondo Lloret Costa Brava (18 April), a sportive that will bring together around 1,500 people between athletes and their companions. During this month, a total of 95 sports stays by teams from across Europe are also expected.

Consolidation of sports tourism also at the start of the year

The peak of Holy Week activity is preceded by a start to the year with a strong presence of sports stays. During the first quarter of 2026, Lloret de Mar has hosted 16,750 people linked to sports tourism, mainly in disciplines such as football, athletics, swimming, cycling and triathlon.

In January, nearly 9,000 people, including athletes and accompanying staff, from 24 sports camps were hosted; a flagship sporting event, the Spanish Handball Selections Championship; the New Year football tournament organised by the Blanc i Blava Lloret Sports Association and the HaBaWaBa water polo tournament.

In February, a total of 71 sports stays and one event were hosted: the Footvia tournament. In total, 2,700 people linked to sports tourism were hosted in Lloret.

And during the month of March, more than 5,330 people were recorded, with 111 sports stays and the celebration of the Kong Race.

Intensive promotion of sports tourism

Parallel to the sporting activity, Lloret Turisme continues to reinforce its international positioning in sports tourism by participating in various specialised events such as the leading professional event Sports & Events in Seville, which this year celebrated its fifth edition with more than 650 professionals;  as well as participating for the first time in the World of Triathlon Live in London, aimed at clubs and athletes in this discipline; and at the Occ’ygène fair in Toulouse, dedicated to outdoor experiences and active tourism.

20 years of the Sports Tourism Destination certification

In 2026, Lloret de Mar will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the certification it received as a Sports Tourism Destination from the Catalan Tourist Agency. The destination currently holds certification in six different disciplines: football, athletics, team sports, cycling, swimming and triathlon.

Lloret de Mar maintains figures above 100,000 sports tourism visitors and celebrates 20 years as a Sports Tourism Destination

Lloret de Mar has presented its annual sports tourism data as part of the Sports Tourism Working Table, a public-private coordination forum that this year celebrates its tenth anniversary.

During 2025, a total of 101,625 people linked to sports tourism passed through Lloret de Mar’s sports facilities. Of these, 58,723 were athletes and 42,902 were accompanying persons.

In terms of the number of activities, 494 sporting tourism activities were held throughout the year, of which 395 were sports stays (training camps) and 99 were sporting events.

Among the most prominent sports for training camps are athletics, football, swimming, triathlon and cycling, with a notable presence from international markets such as France, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway and the United Kingdom, which consolidates Lloret de Mar’s international standing in this segment.

The meeting also highlighted that 2026 will mark 20 years since Lloret de Mar was certified as a Sports Tourism Destination by the Catalan Tourist Board. Over these two decades, the destination has consolidated its position as one of the destinations with the most certified sports disciplines in Catalonia, including football, athletics, team sports, cycling, swimming and triathlon.

Following tourism trends, Lloret de Mar has been able to confirm, through its Tourism Intelligence programme, that tourism products related to an active and sporting component have increased, currently ranking third and fourth respectively among visitors’ interests.

The Councillor for Tourism, Cristina Aymerich, has highlighted that “this strong positioning of the destination has been made possible thanks to the natural resources and sports infrastructure we have, as the public-private commitment to specialisation, the structuring of the product, the strengthening of international promotion and strategic planning to host sporting events and stays throughout the year, which position us as an example of co-governance in this area.”

Currently, the table is made up of more than twenty certified accommodation establishments and receptive companies, and has become a key tool for sharing data, identifying market opportunities and driving new promotional and marketing initiatives.

Furthermore, for 2026, Lloret de Mar Town Council has secured a significant investment of €1,245,000 for the modernisation of several municipal sports facilities. The works include the renovation of the tartan on the athletics tracks, improvements to the municipal swimming pool, the installation of new turf on the Municipal football pitch, the refurbishment of changing rooms and various improvement works at the Molí football pitch.

In the words of the Councillor for Sports, Frederic Guich, “These investments allow us to continue improving the quality of the municipality’s sports facilities and reinforce sport as a key element for contributing to the resident-tourist balance, as well as a strategic tourism product for destagionalisation.”

Looking ahead to 2026, Lloret de Mar will continue to strengthen its position in sports tourism by participating in specialised fairs, professional workshops and promotional activities in international markets, as well as by organising a wide calendar of sporting events throughout the year.

Lloret de Mar is brimming with adrenaline: Roma and Haro among more than 100 teams in the 13th edition of the Rally

The thirteenth edition of the Rally Lloret de Mar takes place next weekend, from 6 to 8 February, with a 150-kilometre timed course. The shakedown will be held on Friday afternoon at Lloret Blau, while the official start will take place on Saturday at 10:30 from the Seafront Promenade in Lloret de Mar.

The first stage will include the Tossa-Cadiretes, Els Àngels and Santa Pellaia stages, with a night pass through Tossa scheduled for 20:01. Sunday’s second stage will cover the Cladells and Osor stages, with the arrival of the first-placed rider at the Seafront expected shortly before 15:00 and the trophy presentation from 16:15. One of the main attractions this year will be the presence of the pairing of Nani Roma and Alex Haro.

Catalan driver Nani Roma, one of the most recognised figures in motorsport, will take part in the event accompanied by co-driver Alex Haro. Their announcement comes just after both secured second place overall at the Dakar 2026, a result that places them among the standout pairs on the entry list and adds significant media appeal to the rally.

The participation of Roma and Haro further raises the sporting level of the competition and promises to provide a great spectacle for the fans who gather at the rally stages. This year, more than 100 teams will be present, making the event even more exciting and competitive.

In the words of the Councillor for Economic Promotion, Cristina Aymerich, “the presence of Nani Roma, a legend in the world of motorsport, gives even more prominence to this Rally Lloret de Mar and shows that the drivers have a great affinity with Lloret de Mar and the Girona region”.

The Rally Lloret de Mar is organised by V-Line Org., with the support of the Lloret de Mar Town Council.

Lloret de Mar creates the “Lloret with the Ryder Cup” working committee to position the destination for the 2031 Ryder Cup

Lloret de Mar held the first meeting of the “Lloret with the Ryder Cup” Committee this Wednesday at the Lloret Turisme offices. This public-private co-governance body has been created to coordinate and promote actions for positioning the destination within the framework of the 2031 Ryder Cup, understood as a strategic opportunity for the country and the region, with a significant economic, media, and international impact.

The Committee, promoted by Lloret Turisme, is made up of institutional representatives and fifteen strategic stakeholders from the local private sector, representing the hospitality, restaurant, service, transportation, and leisure industries.

The Committee is established with a clear commitment to collaborative work between the local administration, the tourism sector, and the local business community, with the aim of creating a shared project that highlights the value of the region, its diversity, and a tourism approach based on sustainability, harmony with the environment, and long-term legacy.

The objective of this working group is to leverage the potential of the period before, during, and after the 2031 Ryder Cup through an action plan to be developed over the coming years with a long-term vision and the goal of creating a positive legacy for the destination.

The meeting is part of the municipality’s strategy to diversify and strengthen its international positioning by incorporating golf as a high-value-added segment, adding to its long history in sports tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). In the words of the Mayor of Lloret, Adrià Lamelas “We want to make Lloret de Mar a central hub for visitors connected to the Ryder Cup, leveraging the region’s resources, the involvement of local stakeholders, and a destination model based on collaboration and sustainability.”

Following the Committee meeting, Lloret Turisme organized an awareness and training day designed to highlight the opportunities linked to the Ryder Cup and golf tourism for the local professional sector. The session, held in the Multipurpose Room of the Lloret Library, was attended by approximately eighty professionals and was led by Jaume Marín, a consultant, trainer, and tourism mentor.

This initiative is part of Lloret de Mar’s roadmap to prepare the destination, generate synergies between the public and private sectors, and work towards a legacy that extends beyond hosting the 2031 Ryder Cup.

The Lloret de Mar Rally reaches its 13th edition, consolidated and with international projection

The organising team, V-Line Org. and Lloret de Mar Town Council continue to strengthen their close collaboration, confirming their ambition for a rally in constant evolution. The Lloret event aims to remain a benchmark both within and outside Catalonia, with an increasingly prominent presence of participants from beyond our borders, especially from France. In this context, the official presentation of the thirteenth edition of the event was held on Monday 12th.

One of its main features is its long and attractive 150-kilometre timed route, once again divided into two stages of competition through the Girona region. Teams will have to complete six different stages on Saturday and Sunday, following the format introduced in the last edition, a new feature that was very well received by participants. On Friday afternoon, the “Shakedown” will take place, a short test section in Lloret Blau where participants will fine-tune their vehicles.

The competition will officially begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, 7 February, when the first team leaves the podium located on the Lloret seafront promenade, heading for the three special timed stages scheduled for the first day of the race: “Tossa-Cadiretes”, “Els Àngels” and “Santa Pellaia”, which will have to be tackled twice. Aware of the desire of many teams to compete at night, the organisers have scheduled a third run through the legendary Tossa stage, starting at 8:01 pm.

The following day, Sunday 8th, the action will continue on the stages around the Les Guilleries massif, such as “Cladells”, on the road linking Santa Coloma de Farners with Sant Hilari Sacalm, and “Osor”, which connects the latter with the town of Anglès. The first competitor will arrive at the Paseo Marítimo shortly before 3:00 p.m., while the trophy presentation is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. for the Speed competitors and 4:45 p.m. for the Regularity competitors.

The title of Motor Capital fits the town of Lloret de Mar like a glove, as it will once again be the epicentre of the rally, hosting all the essential venues. The incomparable setting offered by the seafront promenade, a distinctive feature that makes our event internationally renowned, is the ideal location for the start and finish podium, the parc fermé, the regroupings and the awards ceremony on Sunday. The images of the vehicles by the sea attract more and more participants who do not want to miss the opportunity to be part of an iconic photo. As usual, the excellent facilities of the Evenia Olympic Palace Hotel will be the ideal venue to host the race headquarters and the large team of people needed to organise an event of this magnitude.

The collaboration of the Costa Brava Tourism Capital is, once again, of vital importance in ensuring the smooth running of an event that boosts the local economy at a time of year when tourism is not at its peak.

The Rally Lloret would not be possible without the support of Pirelli, Evenia Hotels, Monlau Technical School, AUTOhebdo SPORT, Tecnigas, Bricoceràmic, Pobe i Fitel Televisión, as well as institutions such as the Provincial Council of Girona and the Costa Brava – Pirineo Girona Tourist Board, Esportcat and the Catalan and Spanish Automobile Federations.

Adrià Lamelas, Mayor of Lloret de Mar: “This event is a clear example of how collaboration between the organisation and the Town Council allows us to promote attractive events that highlight the charm of our surroundings and generate economic activity, employment and tourist dynamism at a key time of year.”

Guillem Pérez, sporting director of V-Line Org: “The sporting consolidation of the Lloret de Mar Rally not only demonstrates the excellent work being done in collaboration with Lloret de Mar Town Council, but also provides an important economic and promotional boost for the town, positioning it as the Capital of Motor Sport and Tourism. The increase in foreign participation year after year means that, in addition to our local audience, we are attracting more and more people from outside our borders, which is key to giving back to the city the support it has given to the organisation of the event.”
